Wednesday Sept. 19, 2012

Today was a shorter day, but we got in everything we needed to get done :)

1: Went out and checked the weather and did our journals.

2: We wrote the date down and I had DP write it after me.
3: Yesterday we did a brief overview of the solar system, but today he learned just about Mercury. He did really well and took this quiz~~~~~>   http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/astronomy/activities/findit/qmercury.shtml  afterwards and got them all right! The quiz was made for 3-5th graders too!
4: Math was basically the same as yesterday. He counted to 100 for me a couple times and then we did the missing numbers worksheet I made up. Daddy said that he was counting in the car after his campfire club meeting, so that's awesome :) He gets caught at 30 still but he is getting better.
5:We watched videos on D, E, and F. He really enjoys singing with them. He's all "F is a consonant a letter of the alphabet, F, F, F, F,F! fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff F!" lol. It's adorable!
6: He wrote his spelling words 3 times each and then we went over how to spell them out loud. He got them all except "funny" but we did some extra on it and he got it.
7: Spanish we sang the "hola" song again. Friday I'm going to record him singing it :) SO cute. He's almost got it by heart.
8: Today for health class it was "Dental Health" so we brushed our teeth together. Pretty simple.
9: Geography class was a unit on N,S,W,E. I downloaded a app on my phone and we went outside and walked around finding which direction we were going.  Then we looked on google earth and we talked about "If we walked north and just kept on walking, where would we end up?" and he enjoyed that. Asked TONS of questions :)
10: Todays book was "Frogs"

What DP (and Jo sometimes) did today!

1: Discussed what day it was and wrote it in our journal.
2: Went out front and discussed the weather, and what we would need to wear in the weather. They drew pictures of the weather as well:

3:  Then we took a walk and did "get the wiggles out!" with Jo :)
4: Math was good, he is working on 1-100 and he counted all the way to 100 4 times. Only got caught up once.
5: Science he learned about the solar system. It was a intro to the unit. He will learn about each planet. There were some videos and we did a brief intro to each planet.
6: He had a 15 minute break, laid on the couch and talked to a friend.
7: Language arts we had to start from scratch, so he learned A, B and C today and the sounds they make. I found a good youtube video series for the alphabet. It was very catchy.
8: Art class was awesome! He made a "primary superhero"! He cut out the shapes and made them into a superhero guy. Gave him a name and super powers.

9: Lunchtime!
10: It was raining by time playground time came around, so he sat on the porch and watched the rain for a while :)
11: DP wrote his spelling words (a, funny, look, see, and) and we went over the spelling together.
12: We learned about the presidents and he watched a few videos on them. I told him to pick a few of them to learn more about and he picked Abe Lincoln, JFK, and Barack Obama. We did some reading on them.
13: We sang a song about simple Spanish conversation. It was here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N05bun-NhaE   We sang the song twice, he was not very loud but I was watching him and he was saying the words. We will work on it the rest of the week as well.
14: We read "A Bath for Gus" and did a journal entry.

Welp, that was it! Productive day all together and we are both tired!

Kindergarten exit/review/seeing where we are

I'm starting this blog to track Daniels homeschooling for 1st grade :)

Today all we did was review the kindergarten basics to see where we had to start.

He did well in all the subjects EXCEPT language arts. There were so many things that he never even learned last year. He should have started to learn to read last year, but they never started, so we are at stage one with that. Everything else he is caught up on. He's actually ahead in his math which is awesome :)
